原文
道常无为而无不为。侯王若能守之，万物将自化。化而欲作，吾将镇之以无名之朴。镇之以无名之朴，夫将不欲。不欲以静，天下将自正。

“道”总是实行无为而治的策略而能成就一切。统治者如能坚持它（“无为而治”），万物就能自己生长、变化。变化中如有贪欲发作，我便用道的真朴来镇服它。用道的真朴把它镇服了，人的贪欲就被断绝了。贪欲断绝了，人心就平静了，天下也就会自然安定了。

The Tao is constantly practicing "Wuwei" (non constrain) and nothing can resist it. If kings and vassals could follow it, all beings will know how to evolve on their own.
If greed appears in their evolution, I will contain them with help of the original sobriety of the Tao.
When beings are constrained by the original sobriety of the Tao, they will no longer have greed. The absence of greed brings peace of mind. Then the world automatically finds its stillness.

Le Tao pratique constamment le "Wuwei" (Non-contraindre) et rien ne peut lui résister.
Si les rois et les vassaux peuvent le conserver, tous les êtres sauront évoluer par eux-mêmes.
Si, l’avidité apparaît dans leur évolution, je les contiendrai à l'aide de la sobriété originelle du Tao.
Quand les êtres sont contraints par la sobriété originelle du Tao, ils n’auront plus d’avidité.
L'absence d’avidité procure la quiétude.
Alors l'empire trouve automatiquement son calme.
