知人者智，自知者明。胜人者有力，自胜者强。知足者富。强行者有志。不失其所者久。死而不亡者寿。

能认识别人（优缺点）的人 是聪明的，能认识自己（优缺点）的人是高明的。能战胜别人的人是有能力的，但能战胜自己（缺点）的人是强大的。知道满足的人是富有的。坚持力行、努力不懈的人是有志气的。不丢失立身之本的人能久盛不衰。（明白“道”的人）就能死而不被遗忘，就是长寿。

Knowing other people is wise; knowing yourself is bright. Overcoming others is powerful; overcoming yourself is great.
Knowing contentment is rich. The one who acts with energy has a firm will. The one who keeps his nature survives for a long time.
The one who dies and (his spirit) does not perish is eternal (as for those who have followed the Tao).

Celui qui connaît les hommes est sage.
Celui qui se connaît est éclairé.
Celui qui sait dompter les hommes est puissant.
Celui qui sait se dompter lui-même est fort.
Celui qui sait se suffire est riche.
Celui qui agit avec énergie est doué d'une ferme volonté.
Celui qui ne s'écarte point de sa nature subsiste longtemps.
