希言自然。
飘风不终朝，骤雨不终日。孰为此者？天地。天地尚不能久，而况于人乎？故从事于道者，同于道；德者，同于德；失者，同于失。同于道者，道亦乐得之；同于德者，德亦乐得之；同于失者，失亦乐得之。
信不足，有不信。

少骚扰百姓（以[无为]方式施政），合乎自然规律。
狂风刮不了一早晨，暴雨下不了一整天。兴起风雨的是谁呢？是天地。天地都不能长久， 何况人呢？所以，做事合乎于道的人就和道合为一体，合乎于德的人就和德合为一体，失道失德的人就和失败合为一体。认同道的人，道也乐于帮助他；认同德的人，德也乐于帮助他；失道失德的人，失败也乐于追随他。
诚信不足的人，才有不被信任的事情发生。

Speaking little (gives few orders) is the Way of nature.
A whirlwind does not last all morning; a cloudburst does not last all day. Who produces these two things ? Heaven and earth. If heaven and earth cannot sustain their efforts for long, certainly much less men!
This is why if a man conforms to the Tao, he identifies with the Tao; if he gives himself up to Virtue, he identifies with Virtue; if he engages in crime, he identifies with crime.
Whoever identifies with the Tao wins the Tao; whoever identifies with Virtue wins virtue; whoever identifies with the crime wins (the shame of) crime.
If a man lacks credibility, he will not have the trust of others.

Celui qui parle peu (donne peu d'ordres) respecte la loi de la nature.
Un vent violent ne dure pas toute la matinée ; une pluie torrentielle ne dure pas toute la journée.
Qui est-ce qui produit ces deux choses ? Le ciel et la terre.
Si le ciel et la terre même ne peuvent soutenir (leurs efforts) longtemps, à plus forte raison l'homme !
C'est pourquoi si l'homme se livre au Tao, il s'identifie au Tao ; s'il se livre à la vertu, il s'identifie à la vertu ; s'il se livre au crime, il s'identifie au crime.
Celui qui s'identifie au Tao gagne le Tao ; celui qui s'identifie à la vertu gagne la vertu ; celui qui s'identifie au crime gagne (la honte du) crime.
S’il manque de crédibilité, il n’aura pas la confiance des autres.
