原文
天之道，其犹张弓乎？高者抑之，下者举之；有馀者损之，不足者补之。
天之道，损有馀而补不足。人之道，则不然，损不足以奉有馀。
孰能有馀以奉天下？唯有道者。
是以圣人为而不恃，功成而不处，其不欲见贤。

上天的法则，不就像张弓射箭一样吗？高了向下压，低了向上举；弓弦张 得过满就减少力量，弓弦过于松弛就加大力量。
上天的的法则，是减少有余的，补给不足的。人间的法则却不是这样，减少不足而供养有余。
谁能将自己有余的用来奉献给天下呢？唯独有道的人才可以做到。
所以圣人有所作为而不自恃强大，有所成就而不居功自傲。他只是不愿意显露自己的才能和智慧罢了。

The way of heaven is like archery, lowering when it is high, and raising when it is low; when it's too tight you relax, and when it's not tight enough, you pull more.
Heaven takes away from those who have excess to help those who do not have enough.
It is not so with men: it takes away from those who do not have enough to give to those who have excess.
Who is the one capable of give his superfluity to the people of the empire? There is only the one who follows the Tao.
So a wise soul does without claiming, achieves great things without prizing. He does not want to show his wisdom.

La voie du ciel est comme on tire à l’arc, on abaisse quand c’est élevé, et élève quand c’est bas ; quand c’est trop tendu on relâche, et quand ce n’est pas assez tendu, on tire plus.
Le ciel ôte à ceux qui ont du superflu pour aider ceux qui n'ont pas assez.
Il n'en est pas ainsi de l'homme : il ôte à ceux qui n'ont pas assez pour donner à ceux qui ont du superflu.
Qui est celui capable de donner son superflu aux hommes de l'empire ? Il n’y a que celui qui possède le Tao.
C'est pourquoi le Saint fait (le bien) et ne s'en prévaut point.
Il accomplît de grandes choses et ne s'y attache point.
Il ne veut pas laisser voir sa sagesse.
