使我介然有知，行于大道，唯施是畏。
大道甚夷，而人好径。朝甚除，田甚芜，仓甚虚；服文采，带利剑，厌饮食，财货有馀；是为盗夸。非道哉！

假如我稍微有点常识，在大道上行走，唯一担心的是害怕走了邪路。
大道很平坦，但有人却偏喜欢走险径。朝廷装饰得非常豪华，但田园却很荒 芜，仓库十分空虚；（朝廷官员仍）穿着锦绣的衣服，佩带着锋利的宝剑，佳肴美味享受太多以至厌食，金银财宝也绰绰有余。这就叫做强盗头目。这是多么不道德啊！

If I have a little common sense, when I walk on a big track, the only thing I have to worry about is losing the way. The main road is very plain, but a lot of people like trails.
The palaces are very luxurious, but the fields are deserted, and the granaries very empty. The princes dress in fancy clothes; they carry sharp swords; they ingest a number of exquisite dishes to the point of disgust; they are full of wealth.
These are heads of thieves! Their way is very far from the Tao.

Si j'ai un peu de bon sens, quand je marche sur une grande voie, la seule chose que j’ai à craindre, c'est de perdre le chemin.
La grande Voie est très plate, mais il y a des gens aiment les sentiers.
Les palais sont très luxueux, mais les champs sont déserts, et les greniers très vides.
Les princes s'habillent de riches étoffes ; ils portent un glaive tranchant ; ils ingèrent nombre de mets exquis jusqu’au dégout; ils regorgent de richesses.
C'est ce qu'on appelle des chefs de voleurs ; ce qui est très éloigné du Tao.
