原文
出生入死。生之徒，十有三；死之徒，十有三；人之生，动之于死地，亦 十有三。夫何故？以其生生之厚。
盖闻善摄生者，陆行不遇兕虎，入军不被甲兵；兕无所投其角，虎无所用其爪，兵无所容其刃。夫何故？以其无死地。

人出世而生，入土而死。长寿的人有十分之三；短命的人有十分之三 ；还有人本该活着，却自己行为不慎重进入死亡之地的，也占十分之三。这是什么原因呢？因为他们讲究养身太过度了。
听说，善于养护自己生命的人，在陆地上行走，不会遇到凶恶的犀牛和猛虎，进入作战部队也不会被武器的伤害；犀牛在他身上无处投角，老虎在他身上无处伸爪，武器在他身上无处砍杀。为什么会这样呢？因为他本身没有任何致命的弱点。

Being born and die are unavoidable. A third of men have a long life; a third of men have short lives; another third of men could have long lives, but die by reckless. What is the reason ? It's because they want to live with too much intensity.
However, I learned that those who know how to manage their life fear neither rhinoceros nor tiger on their way. If he engages in army, he does not need a breastplate or weapons.
Rhinoceros would not know where to strike him with its horns, tiger where to tear him with its claws, soldier where to pierce him with his sword.
What is the reason ? He has no mortal weaknesses!

Un autre tiers d’hommes pourraient avoir une longue vie, mais meurent d’imprudence.
Quelle en est la raison ? C'est qu'ils veulent vivre avec trop d'intensité.
Or j'ai appris que celui qui sait gérer sa vie ne craint sur sa route ni le rhinocéros, ni le tigre.
S'il entre dans une armée, il n'a besoin ni de cuirasse, ni d'armes.
Le rhinocéros ne saurait où le frapper de sa corne, le tigre où le déchirer de ses ongles, le soldat où le percer de son glaive.
Quelle en est la cause ? Il n’a aucune faiblesse mortelle !
