Chapter

22

What is soft keeps its integrity; what curves can rebound better; what is hollow retains water; what is covered keeps it fresh; whoever asks for little can have it; whoever asks for a lot can get confused.
So a wise soul follows the Tao, and he becomes the model of the world.
He doesn't like show himself, that's why he is bright. He is not opinionated, that’s why he is clairvoyant. He does not praise himself, that’s why he can achieve fame. He does not boast, therefore he can reign a long time. He does not compete, that’s why no one in the empire would fight against him.
The axiom of the ancients says: The one who experienced hard difficulties can become perfect. Were these empty words ? It’s an absolute truth.
