Chapter
81
信言不美,美言不信。
善者不辩,辩者不善。
知者不博,博者不知。
圣人不积,既以为人己愈有,既以与人己愈多。
天之道,利而不害;圣人之道,为而不争。
Sincere words are not elegant; elegant words are not sincere. A virtuous man is not talkative; the one who is talkative is not virtuous.
A knowledgeable person does not boast; the one who boasts does not known.
A wise soul does not accumulate (wealth). The more he uses (his virtue) in the interests of people, the more it increases. The more he gives to people, the more he gets richer.
Such is the way of heaven, that it is useful to beings and does not harm them.
Such is the way of a wise soul, that he acts and does not compete.
