The Tao is the asylum of all beings; it is a treasure of virtuous people and a support of the wicked.
Excellent words can earn respect, honorable actions can elevate one above others. If a man is not virtuous, could he be rejected with contempt? So when we celebrate the coronation of an emperor and the appointment of ministers, instead of parading with beautiful jade decorations with luxury coach, it is better to offer them the Tao.
Why have people praised the Tao since ancient times? Was it not true that we always got what we asked for and that the guilty obtained grace from it ? This is why the Tao is the most estimable in the world.
