Chapter

52

The universe has a root. It is the mother of the world. If we know the mother, then we know her children. If a man knows the children and preserves the root, until the end of his life he has nothing to fear.
If he controls his desires, constrains his appetite, until the end of his life, he will never know any worries. But if he lets go his desires, opens wide his appetite, until the end of his life, he cannot be saved.
The one who can see the small details of things is called enlightened; the one who retains his softness is called strong. If he makes use of the brilliance of the Tao and retrieves his enlightened mind, he will no longer have to fear any calamity.
It is a rule to remember forever.
