51

道生之,德畜之,物形之,势成之。
是以万物莫不尊道而贵德。
道之尊,德之贵,夫莫之命而常自然。
故道生之,德畜之;长之育之;成之熟之;养之覆之。生而不有,为而不恃,长而不宰。是谓玄德。

The Tao engenders beings, Virtue nourishes them, materials give them shape and the forces of nature perfect them. This is why all beings revere the Tao and honor Virtue.
The dignity of the Tao and the nobility of Virtue reside in the fact that they do not place themselves as the master of beings but let them evolve naturally. This is why the Tao gives them life, Virtue nourishes them, feeds them, educates them, perfects them, makes them mature, takes care of them, protects them.
It engenders them and does not possess them; it helps them and does not boast of it; it leads them and does not control them like a ruler. This is what is called a deep virtue.
